You can only have one shot out at a time. You will never leave wor alive. You must then face the Arena. He he he ho ho ho ha ha ha ha, that was fun. In the 2nd dungeon, a different maze is randomly selected.
There are 3 types of Worling - Burwor, Garwor, and Thorwor - in ascending order of speed and viciousness. The Burwors were the visible monsters and the first ones in the maze. In dungeon 7, the Burwors start at top speed. As was typical depending on the power of the targeted hardware, corners were cut to squeeze it down into the machines that could run it. Worluk appears at a random position in the maze, and makes for an exit tunnel. But it sure made for a fun game with a partner.
You are still here, so that means that there is some fire burning inside you. Another worrior for my babies to devour. For it is then that the Wizard of Wor might choose to appear. The same is true for Thorwors. These dungeons are much tougher, there are fewer walls and more open spaces.
Monsters can also shoot and player must not touch them. It is often possible to bring a second worrior in, and kill Worluk for double score on the next dungeon, before he escapes. A Garwor that replaces a Burwor will start at the speed the Burwor was going when destroyed. This is a large open area in the middle of the dungeon, with openings level with the side escape doors. Keep going, and you will find me. It seems reasonable that the Bally game Wizard of Wor could have been included in any license deal with Commodore.
As Garwors are shot, Thorwors are teleported in to take their place. However, Worluk's chaotic nature leads him to frantically fly about, sometimes flying out the side escape door closest to him. Note that there are really no more than 6 monsters in one dungeon at any 1 time. When the 2-player mode is selected, both players control their worriors at the same time. Wizard of Wor is a game for 1 or 2 players. I only have the one screen mock-up shown above and its quite limited as I don't know what it would take to make custom charters, so I stuck with the basics. The blocky graphics seem rediculous for a 5200 game, but once you get past that, the game play is truly awesome.
Find the short walls that will only allow monsters to approach you from the side. Shooting the Wizard does not kill him; it only banishes him until the next dungeon. On other dungeons, the level of the current dungeon is indicated. Now you get the heavyweights. He can teleport from one locatoin to another as he fires on you.
Only use it when you really need to. Note that the two worriors can pass through each other unhindered. After Worluk has escaped or been shot, the Wizard of Wor might show up. The Wizard says, 'Scores of 150, 000 or more are exceptional'. He will never shoot at you, he shoots only at monsters. Pinball and the Wizard of Wor have a little bit in common.
This possibility is based on the level of the dungeon you are currently in, and on the total number of worriors left in the game. Sometimes the monsters will line up along one edge of the maze - a lovely parade. It is very easy to walk blind around a corner, into the mouth of a waiting monster. In the 6th dungeon, there are a total of 18 monsters : 6 Burwors, 6 Garwors, and 6 Thorwors. In the 2nd maze there are a total of 10 monsters : 6 Burwors, 2 Garwors, and 2 Thorwors. Then, just modify and use the above program to create the samples.
